CEPHS Hasanuddin University School of Public Health Facilitates Guest Lecture from Stanford University California
Center for Epidemiology and Population Health Study (CEPHS) Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University (FKM Unhas) held a guest lecture entitled “Introduction to Infectious Disease Epidemic Modeling” on Tuesday 23 August 2022.
The guest lecture, which was delivered by Dr. Joelle Rosser from Stanford University California, was attended by 63 students of the Public Health Study Program, FKM Unhas, and was opened by Ansariadi PhD as the Director of CEPHS.
Dr. Rosser himself focuses on the field of infectious diseases. In this guest lecture Dr. Rosser said that the Suspectible, Infection and Recovery (SIR) modeling is a tool that aims to help understand such a complex environment by considering several variables including the ability of a disease to infect.
“With Epidemic Modeling, it can help us take preventive measures so that we can reduce the number of infections that occur, so that the health care system does not collapse,” explained Dr. Rosser.
The guest lecture moderated by a Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology, Rosa Devitha Ayu, took place interactively.
Students actively participate during the session.
“A model must be made as simple as possible but not simpler,” said Dr. Rosser in ending his guest lecture session.
At the end of the session, it is expected that the guest lecture participants can understand and develop the SIR model.
